MARINE WARRANTY SURVEYS IN AFRICA

Marine Warranty Surveys in Africa

Ensuring safety and reliability for complex marine operations

At DPS Africa, we conduct Marine Warranty Surveys (MWS) across various African countries. These independent inspections are essential for mitigating the risks involved in marine activities such as towage, heavy lifting, and project cargo transportation.

What is a Marine Warranty Survey?

A Marine Warranty Survey is a technical assessment designed to reduce the risks of a specific marine operation to an acceptable level, in line with industry best practices.

The Marine Warranty Surveyor acts as an independent party, protecting the interests of underwriters, project developers, and all stakeholders involved. Without MWS approval, insurance coverage and liability protection may be compromised.

What does an MWS involve?

Our surveyors verify whether the equipment used and the planned operations are safe and fit for purpose. This includes:

  • Desktop review and final on-site attendance
  • Inspection of lifting and securing equipment: Is it strong enough and adapted to the cargo’s weight and shape?
  • Assessment of cargo stowage: Is the load stably and safely positioned?
  • Review of handling procedures and certification: Are all operations properly prepared and documented?
  • Toolbox meeting adherence: Are all parties following the agreed procedures during execution?
  • Evaluation of key documents, including stability booklets, towage manuals, weather routing, voyage plans, load-out/load-in plans, securing and lashing plans
  • Issuance of an Approval Certificate confirming that the operation has been assessed and found to be safe
