Casualty report NYK DELPHINUS
On May 14th 2021, m/v “NYK DELPHINUS”, having a TEU capacity of ca. 4900, suffered from a main engine fire about 50 miles west of Monterey, California.
Owners requested salvage services and the fire was brought under control and extinguished quite swiftly. She’s currently at Oakland, where ship’s interests are discussing with USA authorities what next steps to take.
Master declared General Average on May 27th 2021 and appointed Marine Adjusting Solutions as General Average Adjusters to collect the necessary securities and documentation from other parties involved in the adventure.
Only recently, several DPS clients (cargo interests and freight forwarders providing cargo insurance) have been approached by the General Average Adjusters to submit the necessary securities.
Within DP Legal, we have a proven, hands-on track record in similar GA’s. As such, we are 100% committed in order to assist you with the following:
- Quick submission of securities for insured parties in order to have the cargo released ASAP;
- Cash deposits (12,50 to 15% of cargo value) or alternative solutions for uninsured cargo;
- Coordination of surveys for damaged and/or perishable cargo;
- Investigation into the cause of the fire.
In a later stage, we will assess the final General Average Statement and look for possibilities to reduce, reject or recover the contribution paid in General Average.
